In a major twist in the Handwara molestation case, the minor girl has now claimed that she was sexually assaulted by an armyman on April 12. She also told the media that the police forced her to make a different statement inside the police station in Kupwara on earlier.

GIRL’S LATEST STATEMENT

“When I came out from the washroom, an armyman held my hand. I managed to free myself from his clutches and ran outside screaming. Then I was taken to the police station,” the girl told reporters today.

This is the first time the girl has come out in the media since the incident took place. She claimed that the police kept on detaining her and took her from one place to another for many days. She also went to claim that the police abused her.

“They kept on abusing me. I was crying, they kept coming and abusing me. One policeman, named Mohsin, also spit on me,” the girl said.

“They (police) told me not to tell the truth to anyone, they slapped me and warned me against revealing my version of the incident. Then the SP of the area came and told me that he will record my statement. I pleaded with him don’t record and don’t send it to anyone. What I was saying in the video was all what they forced me to say. I was all alone and none of my family members were there when they made the video clip,” she said.

‘REGISTER FIR AGAINST ARMYMAN’

The girl has now filed an application before the station house officer in Handwara to file an FIR of sexual assault against an army personnel.

WHAT’S THE CASE

Handwara witnessed massive clashes between the police and locals on April 12 after the news of molestation of a girl by an armyman spread. The area was under curfew for a week.

Five people were killed in firing by security forces during the protests. But in a controversial video shot inside a police station, the girl had denied the molestation allegation. The girl has now changed her statement saying she was under pressure.
